What science will be done aboard the Beagle?

Check out our updated science page on the website here. Meanwhile, what was Charles Darwin doing on this day in 1832?
"Rio de Janeiro
Torrents of rain. I am at present chiefly collecting spiders. In the course of a few hours 2.6 inches of rain fell."

From Charles Darwin's Beagle diaries, available at Darwin Online or ready digested and blogged for you here at the Darwinbeagle weblog: an anonymous project which is worthy of congrats, bookmarking and a daily visit.

Off the subject, but I have a suggestion. I realize that the limited space of the ship will determine how many and who will sail on the voyage. But, I think you should seriously consider inviting Charles Darwin’s great-great grandson Matthew Chapman aboard for the trip. Not only is he obviously interested in the subject (he has written two very entertaining books dealing with Darwin . . . Trails of the Monkey-An Accidental Memoir and the just published 40 Days and 40 Nights, about the Dover trail), but is also a screen-writer and film maker! A writer, a film maker and related to Darwin! I saw him give a book reading in Nashville and I suggested this to him. I think it is a perfect match. I also have an alternative suggestion . . . Michael Palin.

Duh. That should have been “Trials of the Monkey.”

That sounds genial.
Of course, members of the FitzRoy family should be considered to be invited aboard the voyage of HMS Beagle replica. Did you inform about the Proyect to The Duke of Grafton? I think he or his sons The Earl of Euston and Lord Charles FitzRoy, and also his grandson Lord Ipswich will be very interested to know more.
